Its Not Just For Gays Anymore!

After seeing the Community Christmas episode again today I figured I’d throw up a couple of awesome videos to send us into the new years in comedic fashion.

Donald Glover playing Troy Barnes who does Childish Gambino for the musical episode? Yes, please.

Skip to 19:45 for the awesomeness. If you want to watch the whole episode, WATCH THE PREVIOUS COUPLE FIRST, otherwise you’ll be a little confused if you’re not already caught up.  A warning (because I love to give warnings), if you know whats going on in this scene, you will cry.  Trust me. This show has gone back to being legendary after a shaky 6th season. Sorry I couldn’t find a link to throw up here. So quit complaining and click the link.

At the end of this scene in the season 1 bloopers, Troy looks into the camera and says “shout out to my Jehovah Witness mom”. Kills me everytime

A couple of my favorite Christmas songs:

“Carol of the Bells” I have to mix up the artists because the Trans-Siberian Orchestra gets overplayed sometimes

“All I Want for Christmas is You” Mariah Carey

“Last Christmas” George Michael

“Donde Esta Santa Claus?” Augie Rios  –  I waited for a month for Old Navy to play this one, only to be disappointed with the same ten over and over again.

“O Come, All Ye Faithful” Performed by the Mormon Tabernacle Choir  –  Written originally by John of Reading in the 13th century

Last Christmas post I swear.  However, we shouldn’t be to quick to forget what the Christmas season is all about. That is love, gratitude, appreciation for family, friendship and all of the little things in life that make you feel warm and cozy inside.

“Merry Happy!”

Welcome back NBA

Although I don’t follow the NBA (more of a college basketball fan myself…GO DUKE!), as a sports fan I’m glad to see the NBA playing again.  In honor of the 2 sides finally reaching a deal in the NBA and the NFL this year, just makes sense to do a sports post. So here are the best moments of this here Christmas weekend in sports, starting with the one and only D. Rose. Oh, and Luol Dang?  7th overall pick in the 2004 draft out of Duke University

Bolton vs. Newcastle. Skip to 1:25

Watch the first 35 seconds of this one. Two incredible saves

I found a couple sick soccer highlights (posted above), but the site’s embedding process isn’t working on this here blog. Check em out though, they’re pretty sick.  Now I’ll leave you with something Turner showed me a couple days ago. Had me as giddy as a school girl.

Tom Brady dies and goes to heaven. God says, “Welcome Tom, and job well done. Look to your right. See that little modest 2000 square foot home with the Patriot’s sticker and your picture in the front window, that is where you will live. You should be proud, not everyone here gets a house to live in.”
Brady was proud and thankful as well, but as he walked towards his new house, he saw a huge 25,000 square foot mansion around the corner painted orange and blue, with Gator and Bronco Stained glass in every window bearing a Tim Tebow image in full uniform, two 150 foot flag poles in the front manicured lawn waiving a Gator and a Bronco’s flag respectively, a pool shaped like Albert the Alligator, a hot tub shaped like a Bronco and separate Bronco and Gator Tim Tebow signed Jerseys on each of the enormous entrance doors. Tom turned back and said “God, I do not mean to sound disrespectful but I have a question….
I was All Pro for 9 straight years, League MVP 4 times and won 3 Super Bowls. How come Tim Tebow gets a bigger house than I do?” God chuckled and said, “Tom, that is not Tim’s house, it’s mine”

“And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will towards men”

The Debbie Downer

Some bad news guys…my laptop died and my charger wont charge it.  Either my laptop is dead or the charger just doesn’t work (hopefully the latter). If it is the first one, then i will being going on a hiatus until I can get another one. If its the latter, however, I’ll go get on one Tuesday and I’ll be getting on all the posts I’ve been promising you.

Until then, Merry Christmas!

Scrubs: “My Best Moment”

Next Time I Swear I Won’t Drive To Nevada

The writer of Cult.ivated Society who I had the honor of meeting over halloween weekend 2010 did a piece on a duo made up of none other than Jesse Morrison and Dan Hildebrand. Both stemming from Phoenix, AZ, they recently collaborated on a couple of tracks with Jesse laying down the instrumentals and backup vocals while Dan raps over the top. I can’t find the words to give them the respect that they deserve (I’m running on 30 minutes of sleep), so I’m gonna borrow what Mr. Cult.ivated wrote. Enjoy

The fine fellows above are Arizona natives (shout out to the 602) that go by

Rocky Loves Emily.  Jesse Morrison (left) and Daniel Hildebrand (Right) first

off are like the two raddest, most genuine dooders around.  I have had the

honor of hanging out with these guys a time or two and their chilled out, loving

personalities is depicted in their music. Enough of that mushy chatter though,

let’s talk music.  Jesse leads production and those killer vocals at the beginning

of the track.  If you guys follow Cult.ivate often, you saw a post I did a while

back by a band called CooBee Coo.  Jesse is one of the guys from CooBee Coo

and takes his many musical talents to produce one of the coolest tracks I have

heard.  It’s got that Summer time feel to it, but like I said before, what does that

even really mean.  For you guys that go to APU with the lot of us, you may

recognize that bearded wonder on your right.  Daniel aka Hildy has built up

quite the reputation for being one of the best freestylers (I don’t care that

freestylers isn’t a real word, get over it) around and I mean actually freestyling.

By freestyling I actually mean coming up with raps on the spot, off the dome!

For those of you who have been clouded by all these rappers droppin

“Freestyles” on the radio, lemme break some harsh news to you, THOSE

AREN”T FREESTYLES.  Yes, yes, I know your sad, devastated even, but don’t

fret, I have just the answer.  Wipe those little tears away and click the play

button, everything will be all better, I promise.  Enough chatter.

Check out Cult.ivated Society’s blog. Dude puts in a lot of work posting new dope music almost everyday. This blog is the inspiration that got me and Sibi to start this project up:  http://cultivatedsociety.wordpress.com/

“I rip and I rhyme, I rhyme and I rip. This is the way that Dylan spits”

I Would Be Interested In Hearing About This In Blog Form

In light of Sibi putting up the post about films taking from 2001: A Space Odyssey, I’ve decided to go on the other side of this common phenomenon (oxymoronic, I know) and showcase how a certain show takes from other shows and films to help create hilarious moments of its own.

Side note: My brother dressed up as Barney Stinson this last halloween and didn’t take a single bad picture. True Story.

How I Met Your Mother is my favorite tv show (Community and Scrubs are up in the top 3 as well but they have fallen/fell off in the 3rd and 8th season, respectively), and after watching old episodes recently I’ve noticed how many pop-culture references they throw in that make the show so much funnier. This isn’t from all 7 seasons…because I don’t have that kind of time on my hands, and that list would be too long for anyone but an obsessed fan (e.g. yours truly) to read from beginning to end. So heres HIMYM and some of its many influences:

The Three Amigos:

Dead Poets Society: Sorry, but I couldn’t find a clip of it. Start at 13:30…or watch the whole thing http://videobb.com/watch_video.php?v=nagKiqZ6Awic

World of Warcraft:

That 70’s Show:

Late Night with David Letterman:  I love how he does the laugh and the throwing of the paper at the end perfectly

Cheers:

Scrubs: This one is a long shot, but Barney always reminds me of the Janitor

CSI:

Lost: Not quite a fan of people from other shows making guest appearances as practically the same characters, but alas.

Amadeus: P.S. the best burger in the NYC is at the Burger Joint in the lobby of Le Parker Meridien.

Most good shows: Fun fact… They all have a musical episode. And NPH’s voice is fantastic. Another fun fact, Heather morris (Brittany from Glee) is a dancer in this video (when Barney comes out in the flying V at the end, shes the one at the bottom of the screen in the middle/right)

And, ironically enough, Doogie Howser M.D:

“My peers have been held back for years, holding back the tears, Everybody knows our name like we was the cast from Cheers”

I Love a Good Interview Pt.4

The last of 4 parts from the Donald Glover (Childish Gambino) Interview. Enjoy

DIY for Dummies

Sibi and I (the two writers of this here blog) made this for the most recent Herman Miller student video competition.  Sibi was on the camera, and I did the score (thank you Garageband). No we didn’t win (sad day, I know), but it was so much fun making the music for this that I was really rethinking my decision to shy away from a music career.

Staring Vincent Ribeiro.    Enjoy

Its Sunday! Its Pancakes Day!

Okay maybe it’s not sunday, but just go with the reference (How I Met Your Mother, if you were wondering. Also if you were wondering why I mentioned the source of the reference you should stop cause it was on a whim.  So get used to googling them again).

I hit up Jamba Juice just now after my morning shift at Old Navy and was talking to my old manager who showed me this video from Mac Lethal.  He’s a legit rapper, but on top of that he asks his facebook followers what they want to hear about and what beats he should rap over. I had to watch this twice to make sure I heard everything correctly. Which I did. And it was more awesome the second time. So here’s Mac Lethal rapping over “Look at me Now” about pancakes. Thats right, pancakes.

“Who in their right mind in a choice between pancakes and living chooses pancakes?”   “If you pause to think, you’d realize that that answer is inextricably contingent upon the type of life being led… and, of course, the quality of the pancakes.”

Stanley from The Office baller-ass music video

I usually am pretty faithful with the Nate-Seb-Nate-Seb posts…but as a huge Office fan this was a must…this is hysterical. Enjoy!!

“I prefer the Term Homage”

As I watched High Fidelity again the other day, I was thinking to myself, I wanna work in a record store (but I realized none of them were making money so that thought left me quickly).  Then I noticed I was 10 minutes into the movie and top 5 lists had already been mentioned at least 3 times. Which brings us to todays topic:

Top 5 Lists

I was thinking about doing all the Top 5 Lists from the movie all in one post but I realized a) that would take so long to research, write, and read and b) sebastian has been bugging me about not posting in the last couple days so I’ve been thinking about doing a one-a-day thing where I do a Top 5 from the movie everyday (duh) until I’ve done them all. In addition to that, in order to spice up my own life, I’d throw in other posts so that its not too monotonous. Last thought before this starts: If you have seen the movie, you’ll realize that I am not going to do every single Top 5 that they talk about. Mostly because I don’t know how to answer them (if you actually realize that I don’t do all of them, you know this movie too well).

Top 5 Side 1 Track 1’s (In no particular order) :

1) Song: Sunshine  Album: Sad Clown Bad Summer  Artist:  Atmosphere  –  “Every woman looks better in a sundress” This song is just so feel good and up-beat. And its Atmosphere, who I might be a little bias towards.

2) Song: Planet Rock  Album: Planet Rock: The Album  Artist: Afrika Bambaata & Soulsonic Force  –  I’d drop an “Ali G, Indahouse” quote to flaunt my vast knowledge of movies but that wouldn’t do anything to support this song, so just listen and enjoy one great song by a founding member of the genre I love so dearly.

3) Song: Welcome to the Jungle  Artist: Guns N’ Roses Album: Appetite for Destruction  –  First heard this song freshman year of high school when David burned me a bunch of music (GNR, STP, Offspring, Jay-Z, RHCP). This album then changed my life.  Senior year of high school when I was on the year book committee (video yearbook mostly, none of the mistakes in the book were my fault) I had an idea for the beginning of the video that was shot in first person (does that mean the same thing as first person shooter? cause thats what I was going for…).  What you saw was the view of me getting off the bus, turning around to the school, and as the bus drove away this song started.  A couple months later I finally saw the music video for this song and realized I had, without any knowledge, done a pretty good homage. Cheers.

4) Song: Baba O’Riley  Artist: The Who  Album: Who’s Next  –  “So what if I don’t know all the lyrics to Teenage Wasteland?” “Its Baba O’Riley. The song’s called Baba O’Riley!”

5) Song: You Should be Dancing Album: Children of the World Artist: Bee Gees  –  While going through my music to find songs to fit this category, I stumbled upon theses guys for the first time in years (I have 14000 songs, its easy to have things get forgotten for long periods of time) and remembered how awesome they are. I gotta stop letting new genres make me forget about the classics.

Honorable Mentions:

Song: Brown Eyed Girl Artist: Van Morrison Album: Blowin’ Your Mind!

Song: Battle Cry Artist: Army of the Pharaohs Album: The Torture Papers  –  I’ve been really into these guys recently. Celph Titled’s voice and delivery are so filthy

Song: Black Dog Album: Led Zeppelin IV Artist: Led Zeppelin  –  “When it comes down to making out, whenever possible, put on side one of Led Zeppelin IV.”

I haven’t decided which one I’ll do for tomorrow…so we’ll see what I’m in the mood for when that time comes.

What are you thankful for today? Off the top of my head I can think of my friends, family, delicious food (gained 5.6 pounds at dinner today), beautiful parks, the cure for hiccups, and the button that lets you mute 12 year olds on x-box live.

Love you guys.
